I purchased several Gel Spikes last year when I went for 3 weeks vacation. It worked very well for me, my plants survived without any problem, they even appeared to be in better condition than when I take care of them. I plan to buy some more Gel Spikes this year before I leave. Just remember to use 2 or 3 for larger pots.
